Texoma Lawmakers Discuss Capacity at Texas Prisons
(KFDX-TV)
Prisons in Texas are bursting at the seams. Most of the locked down facilities are creeping toward capacity, and some Texas lawmakers hope to look at the population problem this Legislative Session.
State prisons are 96 percent full according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. So, unless every criminal in Texas decides to retire, lawmakers are going to have to come up with something before its too late.
Representative Farabee sits down with KFDX to discuss overcrowding and new ways to house low risk inmates.
“Possibly there’s a way to open up the back door to those who are no longer a risk to society but still keep them incarcerated in a long term care facility,” Farabee said. (View the story)
